
Belarus marks Day of National Remembrance of Victims of Great Patriotic War and Genocide of Belarusian People
On 22 June Belarus observes the sad day — the National Remembrance Day of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People. The victory in that war came at a very high cost as Belarus lost every third resident.

Notes about father, a private soldier of Victory
My father, Mikhail Cherkashin, a Red Army Guards private soldier, who during the operation «Bagration» evacuated 450 wounded soldiers and officers to the sorting platoon, returned home with honors on April 12, 1945, after a serious injury. His Great Patriotic War took place in the 51st Guards Rifle Division. Lasting over 1,300 days, it ended shortly before the Great Victory.

On these memorable days, all Belarusians — young and old — were involved in the large-scale celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. After all, this event, given to the world in May 1945, is the foundation of the development of our country, the spiritual core of the nation, which cannot be taken away from us or rewritten.

During a solemn assembly held on 6 May to mark the 80th anniversary of the Soviet nation’s Victory in the Great Patriotic War Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed the importance of celebrating this date, BelTA has learned.

One of the most popular exhibits of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War is Li-2 aircraft. It is placed on the interactive platform near the museum building and especially attracts young visitors, who gladly study the cabin and the cockpit. This year the interactive platform starts to operate on May 4.

The movies were shown as part of the national action «Every Belarusian should see it». In other countries (Russia, China, Vietnam, Serbia, Colombia, Turkey, Tajikistan, Argentina, the USA) these movies are shown within the framework of the action «Pamyatats. Pomnit. Remember». The first viewers of the dilogy were journalists who were invited to a press screening at the Pobeda movie theater in the capital.
