327 days alone: a British man rowed across the Pacific and Indian Oceans
A 54-year-old former Royal Marine, Dave Bell, has completed a solo rowing crossing from Peru to Kenya, covering nearly 29,000 kilometers (about 18,000 miles) in 327 days. The Brit not only set a historic world record but also raised over £112,000 for veterans and first responders suffering from severe stress disorders (PTSD), TASS reports.
Russian scientists discover new mechanism for energy transfer in ocean
Oceanologists from Saint Petersburg State University (SPbU), as part of a group of Russian researchers, have identified previously unknown mechanisms for the propagation of Rossby waves — flows of water in the ocean formed under the influence of the Earth’s rotation. The discovery will help improve forecasts of ocean processes and provide a better understanding of the formation of eddies and the interaction of currents with the seabed topography, according to the website of the university, a partner of TV BRICS.
