Today marks the 95th anniversary of the birth of Nil Semyonovich Hilevich, a People’s Poet of Belarus, translator, literary scholar, folklorist, playwright, and scientist. His creative legacy is difficult to confine to a single definition: he wrote poetry and narrative poems, researched Belarusian literature and folk songs, collected folklore, translated works by foreign authors, and created dramatic and journalistic pieces. Throughout all of this, the central element of his work remained the word-native, living, heard in childhood, and carried through his entire life.
