BATE to be first Belarusian club to open continental tournaments new season

The footballers of FC BATE Borisov will be the first among Belarusian clubs to open the new season of continental tournaments, BelTA has learned.



In the opening match of the Conference League qualifying, the holders of the Belarusian Cup will play away against the Albanian club Elbasani (kickoff at 21:00). The match will be officiated by a team of Moldovan referees led by Ion Orlik. His assistants will be Denis Oale and Anatoliy Basyul, with Oleg Stoyanov as the fourth official.

Before departing for Albania, the Borisov team lost their home match of the 14th round to Gomel (0:1) and currently sit in 15th place in the league table with only 9 points. BATE’s opponents played a friendly match on 1 July against the Montenegrin club Petrovac, winning 2:1. The return leg of the Conference League tie between BATE and Elbasani will take place on 16 July at the Mehdi Huseynzade Stadium in Sumgait, Azerbaijan. The country’s vice-champions, Minsk’s Dinamo, will play their first Conference League qualifying match against Sileks from North Macedonia in the Bulgarian city of Stara Zagora on 9 July, with the return match scheduled in Skopje for 16 July.

The first opponent of the national champions ML Vitebsk in the qualification of the main continental club tournament, the Champions League, will be the Romanian club Universitatea from Craiova. Their first match will take place in Mezőkövesd, Hungary on 8 July, and the return leg will be played in Romania on 15 July.
