Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Aleksei Trukhanov held a working meeting with a delegation from Northwestern Polytechnical University of China led by Li Ziwei, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation. The main topics of the meeting were the development of joint initiatives and the work of the National Academy of Sciences’ office in Xi’an, China.
Aleksei Trukhanov noted that the parties had already approved a roadmap comprising 14 joint projects. According to him, it is now important to review the roadmap and assess the current implementation status of these initiatives.
Particular attention was paid to identifying new areas for cooperation, including at the level of individual provinces. «Belarus and China are building their relations based on an all-weather, all-round strategic partnership, which provides a solid foundation for implementing ambitious scientific ideas and contributes to strengthening the technological sovereignty of both countries,» Aleksei Trukhanov said.
Another topic was the upcoming meeting of the Council of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS), which is scheduled to take place in Xi’an in the autumn of 2026. Chief Academic Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vasily Gursky expressed confidence that, thanks to coordinated work with their Chinese counterparts, the event would be held at the highest level.
In addition, the National Academy of Sciences signed a scientific and technological cooperation agreement with Foshan University of China. The document was signed by Aleksei Trukhanov and Xuewen Li, Associate Dean of the School of Agriculture and Biological Engineering at the Chinese university.
Under the agreement, cooperation will cover several areas, including the establishment of joint laboratories as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the development and implementation of projects in such fields as mechanical engineering, automation, electronics, materials science, chemistry, physics, and biology.
The parties also plan to jointly organize scientific events and provide training under master’s, postgraduate and doctoral programs, which will help strengthen their HR potential.
