Belarus embarks on winter barley harvest

Belarus has started harvesting winter barley, BelTA learned from the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry.



As of 1 July, the harvest season has started in all regions except Vitebsk (where they start slightly later). Winter barley has been harvested from 6% of the planted area. A total of 57,000 tonnes have been threshed, with an average yield of 38.3 centners per hectare. By region, the harvest looks as follows: Brest Oblast — 44,000 tonnes, Gomel Oblast — 7,000 tonnes, Grodno Oblast — 3,000 tonnes, Minsk Oblast — 2,000 tonnes, Mogilev Oblast — 500 tonnes.

First cut was completed across an area of 1.249 million hectares, or 97% of the plan (which stands at 1.390 million hectares). Second cut was harvested across an area of 212,000 hectares or 21% of the plan (1.010 million hectares).

Hay production has reached 257,000 tonnes or 36% of the plan.

Silage output has reached 8.407 million tonnes or 59% of the target of 14.309 million tonnes.

Region-by-region silage figures are: Minsk Oblast — 2.100 million tonnes (60% of target); Brest Oblast — 1.511 million tonnes (50%); Grodno Oblast — 1.457million tonnes (54%); Mogilev Oblast — 1.265 million tonnes (76%); Vitebsk Oblast — 1.040 million tonnes (54%), Gomel Oblast — 1.033 million tonnes (68%). 

Silage harvest stands at 263,000 tonnes, or just 1% of the target of 20.519 million tonnes. Grass feed totals 2.553 million tonnes of feed units or 25% of the target of 10.131 million tonnes.
