Belarus has expanded the powers of the National Council on Gender Policy under the Council of Ministers. Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin has signed the relevant resolution, BelTA learned from the government press service.

The resolution was drafted to broaden the Council’s mandate in formulating recommendations aimed at leveling the social and economic opportunities of men and women, building a system of family values and responsible parenthood, and strengthening marital relations.

A new version of the National Council’s regulations has been approved, which includes formally defining the term «gender policy», as well as clarifying the scope of the Council’s objectives, functions, rights, and those of its members.

Additionally, the National Council has been given the authority to align gender policy with social and economic policy, develop family support measures that help achieve the state’s demographic goals, and consolidate the efforts of various government agencies in protecting citizens’ health. The Council is also empowered to review and submit proposals for draft reports of the Republic of Belarus to international organizations, state programs, and action plans in the areas of gender equality and the promotion of spiritual and moral values related to family, motherhood, and fatherhood.

The composition of the National Council has been updated as well.
