Belarus’ grain harvest exceeds 4.6m tonnes

Belarusian farmers have threshed 4.6 million tonnes of grain, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 3 August, grain harvest including rapeseed amounted to 4.654 million tonnes, which is almost 2 million tonnes more than on the same date last year, the press service said.

By region, the progress in the harvest looks as follows: Brest Oblast — 1,252,000 tonnes, Minsk Oblast — 1,051,000 tonnes, Grodno Oblast — 882,000 tonnes, Gomel Oblast — 680,000 tonnes, Mogilev Oblast — 474,000 tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast — 315,000 tonnes.

Grain and leguminous crops (including rapeseed, without corn) have been harvested from 1,289,000 hectares or 53% of the areas (2,432,000 hectares in total).

Flax has been pulled across the area of 34,000 hectares, or 70% of the target. «Pace is more than twice as high as last year in all regions of the country,» the ministry said.

Deliveries under the state procurement order include: 104,000 tonnes of food grain (16% of the 663,000-tonne target); 70,000 tonnes of rapeseed (70% of the 100,000-tonne target); and 27,000 tonnes of malting barley (32% of the 86,000-tonne target).

Second cut was harvested across an area of 735,000 hectares or 73% of the plan.

Hay production has reached 455,000 tonnes or 64% of the plan. Silage harvest progress stands at 359,000 tonnes. Forage grasses total 3,461,000 tonnes or 34% of the target. Haylage production has reached 1,173,000 tonnes, or 78% of the target. 

Fertilizer stocks (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) for winter planting have been procured at 111% (191,000 tonnes) of the planned requirement.
