The parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Belarus and the FAO, as well as the organization’s place and role in ensuring food security.
«Maxim Ryzhenkov emphasized the importance of cooperation with the FAO, which provides expert support to Belarus in the areas of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and environmental protection. He expressed hope for the earliest possible completion of the coordination process for the 2026–2030 Country Programming Framework,» the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
During the talks, special emphasis was placed on sanction restrictions on the export of Belarusian potash fertilizers.
The foreign minister briefed the FAO director-general on Belarus’ bilateral cooperation programs with Asian and African countries designed to boost their agro-industrial potential. «The foreign minister expressed Belarus’ interest in joining FAO projects and programs for nations in these regions to leverage our country’s accumulated experience and existing technologies in addressing their agricultural development challenges,» the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
Qu Dongyu noted Belarus’ contribution to ensuring global food security. He also informed the head of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the progress of the FAO reform, which is aimed, among other things, at modernizing the organization’s governance system.
