Erlist Akunbekov is also co-chairman of the Belarusian-Kyrgyz intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation. The parties discussed issues of cooperation, including preparations for events in 2026 both in a bilateral format and within the framework of Kyrgyzstan’s presidency in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
This is the country’s fourth presidency in the SCO. Kyrgyzstan, as a state that stood at the origins of the organization’s creation, views this as an opportunity to give new impetus to the development of the organization, strengthen its global role, and promote the further deepening of friendship and good-neighborliness.
Kyrgyzstan’s presidency is held under the motto «25 Years of the SCO: Together for Sustainable Peace, Development and Prosperity». The first priority is ensuring long-term stability. Kyrgyzstan continues to increase collective efforts aimed at countering threats and challenges to the security of SCO member states. This primarily concerns countering terrorism, separatism and extremism.
The second priority is realizing the potential of economic cooperation. The Kyrgyz chairmanship has proposed developing multilateral cooperation to create favorable conditions for international road and rail transport, including the creation of new transport routes and the effective use of the transit and transport potential of SCO member states.
Digitalization is also named as a priority. During its presidency, Kyrgyzstan considers it important to hold an SCO Youth Digital Forum.
