Belarus plants 95% of spring crops

Belarus has planted 95% of its spring crops, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.


«According to operational data as of 20 May 2026, spring crops have been planted on the area of 2,187,000 hectares, which accounted for 95% of the total cropland area of 2,294,000 hectares,» the press service said.

The regional breakdown is the following: Brest Oblast — 424,000 hectares (100% of planned areas); Grodno Oblast — 323,000 hectares (97%); Minsk Oblast — 484,000 hectares (97%); Vitebsk Oblast — 281,000 hectares (92%); Mogilev Oblast — 304,000 hectares (92%); Gomel Oblast — 371,000 hectares (89%).

Corn has been sown in all regions of the country on a total area of 1,179,000 hectares, accounting for 92% of the plan of 1,283,000 hectares.

Buckwheat has been planted across almost 8,000 hectares, reaching 62% of the 14,000-hectare plan. Millet has been planted on nearly 4,000 hectares or 47% of the 8,000 hectares planned.

Organic fertilizers for spring sowing have been applied in the amount of over 46 million tonnes, or 84% of the amount transported to the fields.

Potatoes have been planted on an area of more than 21,000 hectares, accounting for 93% of the plan of 22,000 hectares. By region, the percentage of planted area is: Mogilev Oblast — 105%, Grodno Oblast — 100%, Gomel Oblast — 97%, Minsk Oblast — 92%, Brest Oblast — 91%, Vitebsk Oblast — 69%.

Vegetable crops (cabbage, beets, carrots, etc.) have been planted on more than 6,000 hectares, which accounted for 83% of the plan of 8,000 hectares.
