Belarus’ potato harvest 36% complete

Potatoes have been harvested from 36% of the planned areas in Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.



According to operational data as of 21 September, potatoes have been harvested from 36% of the country’s areas. A total of 272,000 tonnes of potatoes have been dug up, with an average yield of 344 centners per hectare. By region: Mogilev Oblast — 78,000 tonnes, Minsk Oblast — 65,000 tonnes, Brest Oblast — 56,000 tonnes, Gomel Oblast — 29,000 tonnes, Grodno Oblast — 24,000 tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast — 20,000 tonnes.

Grain harvest including rapeseed amounted to 9.251 million tonnes. By region, the progress in the harvest looks as follows: Minsk Oblast — 2,437,000 tonnes, Grodno Oblast — 1,846,000 tonnes, Brest Oblast — 1,680,000 tonnes, Mogilev Oblast — 1,219,000 tonnes, Gomel Oblast — 1,094,000 tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast — 975,000 tonnes.

A total of 1,140,000 hectares have been ploughed for sowing winter grain crops, which is 76% of the 1,500,000-hectare plan. Winter grain crops for grain have been sown by all regions of the country on an area of 750,000 hectares — 50% of the plan. All regions are proceeding at rates exceeding last year’s.

Corn for silage has been harvested from 38% of the areas.

The following have been procured: hay — 599,000 tonnes, which is 84% of the plan; haylage — 12,745,000 tonnes (89%); silage — 7,440,000 tonnes (36%); grass feed — 5,907,000 tonnes of feed units (58%).

The availability of mineral fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) for winter sowing stands at 188% of the plan.

Sugar beet has been harvested from an area of 32,000 hectares, which is 29% of the plan. A total of 1,424,000 tonnes of sugar beet have been dug up, with an average yield of 446 centners per hectare. By region: Minsk Oblast — 596,000 tonnes, Grodno Oblast — 483,000 tonnes, Brest Oblast — 198,000 tonnes, Mogilev Oblast — 131,000 tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast — 16,000 tonnes.

In total, 50,000 tonnes of vegetables grown in open ground have been harvested across the country. The sown areas amount to almost 3,000 hectares, with 38% already harvested.
