«We are primarily interested in promoting exports. Contracts will be signed today with Vitebsk Carpets and Milavitsa. We are also working on deliveries of fabrics from Mogotex and Orsha Linen Mill. We have ongoing relations with Uzbekistan and have customers,» said Nadezhda Lazarevich.
As far as bilateral cooperation is concerned, Belarusian manufacturers have operations in Uzbekistan. «Yesterday we visited one of the factories and saw how garment production lines operate. Uzbekistan is our strategic partner; we purchase raw materials for fabric production from them. Every fourth T-shirt produced in Belarus is made from Uzbek cotton. Of course, we will strengthen our cooperation. We will discuss wool processing: there is a large supply of this raw material here, but no one has yet processed it. If we find a good partner, we will go into this business. In addition, today we will sign a memorandum on cooperation in the leather industry and discuss the supply of this raw material here. This is also a promising area, and we will develop it. I believe we will be able to build good contracts, including in the leather industry,» noted the chairperson of Bellegprom Concern.
A government delegation led by Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin is currently visiting Uzbekistan. The fourth meeting of the Uzbekistan-Belarus Business Council is underway in Tashkent today. The event has brought together over 50 participants from the Belarusian side, representing 42 enterprises across a range of economic sectors: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, light and food industries, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, forestry and woodworking, and construction goods and services. On the Uzbekistan side, representatives from more than 200 companies, spanning all regions of the country, are taking part. The signing of contracts and cooperation agreements is expected during the event.
