On the first competition day, men competed for all-around medals and determined finalists in individual events. The European champion in the most prestigious discipline was host country representative Illia Kovtun, who edged Russia’s Arsenii Dukhno by 0.001 points. Another Russian, Daniel Marinov, finished third. The best Belarusian was Daniil Tvardouski, who placed 39th.

In the floor exercise, Belarus’ team leader Yahor Sharamkou secured a spot in the final eight with the 7th-best score among 122 competitors. He will compete for a medal against gymnasts from Russia, Israel, the UK, Croatia, Ireland, and Switzerland. Earlier this year, Yahor Sharamkou won gold on the floor at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Baku and took silver at a similar event in Cottbus.

The team qualification round also took place on 19 August. The Belarusian team of Daniil Tvardouski, Yahor Sharamkou, Danila Hryharchuk, Bahdan Ilyinkou, and Mikita Parfianovich placed 18th out of 30 teams and did not advance to the final. On 20 August, the junior competition begins in Zagreb, with five Belarusian gymnasts set to compete. Individual apparatus finals will be held on 21 and 22 August.
