Five representatives of Belarus advanced to the finals in their respective weight categories, and each one claimed gold. Artsiom Kolasau (-60kg) defeated Egypt’s Yassin Sabrah, Aliaksandr Sidoryk (-90kg) beat Abdelaziz Ben Ammar of Tunisia, Hanna Burakova (-52kg) overcame Lola Hodson of the UK, Yana Makretskaya (-63kg) was stronger than Russian Milena Khilova, and Slaviana Rylkevich (-78kg) secured a victory against local competitor Arij Agueb.
In addition to the gold medals, the Belarusian team’s haul includes six bronze awards. The bronze medalists are Maksim Charniak and Anton Dubovik (both -81kg), Andrei Shymbaliou (-90kg), Pankrat Surba and Yauheni Morau (both -100kg), and Diana Grigorenko (-52kg).
A total of 229 athletes from 29 countries took part in the Tunis African Open tournament. Belarus was represented by a lineup of 28 competitors. Earlier, Belarusian judokas had a strong showing at the junior competitions in Tunisia, bringing home ten medals (4 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze).
