The union’s flagship patriotic project is Flowers of the Great Victory. «Back in 2015, the Belarusian BRSM Youth Union introduced its own symbol: a boutonniere featuring an apple blossom and a ribbon in the colors of the national flag. Today, no national holiday or day of remembrance takes place without this symbol,» Vladimir Pavlovsky said. «The project takes a comprehensive approach. As we prepare for Victory Day celebrations, we do not simply come to memorial sites on 9 May to lay flowers. The work begins well in advance.»

The first stage involves clean-up efforts. After winter, military burial sites and memorials require special care, and young volunteers devote an entire week to tidying them up.

The second stage focuses on research. Participants explore the history of their families during the Great Patriotic War, with many discovering previously unknown facts about their relatives.

The third stage is the Week of Remembrance, when young people visit memorials, lay flowers and pay tribute to those who lived through the hardships of the war and the post-war years.

«Every meter of our land is soaked with the blood of the heroes, and there is no family that was not affected by the Great Patriotic War in one way or another. That is why members of student work brigades pay special attention to patriotic education,» Vladimir Pavlovsky stressed. «It is symbolic that the national launch of the project took place at Buinichy Field in Mogilev Oblast, where the defenders of Mogilev held the line for 23 days. It is there that you truly feel the connection between generations. You understand that those heroes fought for the greatest of goals, so that today’s young people could live in peace, work, raise families and develop the country together. Today, that is what matters most,» he added.
