Belarusian delegation takes part in IPU Assembly in Tanzania

A Belarusian delegation is taking part in the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and related events in Arusha, the United Republic of Tanzania, BelTA has learned.



The IPU Assembly is a unique platform for discussing pressing issues on the international agenda. Delegations from more than 120 countries are taking part in the event. Belarus is represented by Sergei Aleinik, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic; Alla Smolyak, a member of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus; and Sergei Rachkov, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives. One of the key elements of the agenda will be the election of the IPU President for 2026-2029.

According to the press service of the House of Representatives, Sergei Rachkov will speak during the general debate on enhancing the effectiveness of governance and expanding opportunities for the public through inclusiveness, trust, and equal opportunities. The Belarusian MP will chair a meeting of the Eurasia Group, which will include hearings for candidates for the post of IPU President.

As a member of the Bureau of the IPU Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, Sergei Rachkov will present Belarus’ position in a discussion on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and the future of the labor sphere. The MP is also scheduled to take part in an expert hearing of the IPU Standing Committee on Peace and International Security on strengthening security and protecting critical infrastructure during times of crisis. He will represent the House of Representatives at coordination meetings of the heads of parliamentary delegations from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states to the IPU and the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.

The Assembly will also feature meetings of the Governing Council, Executive Committee, Forum of Women Parliamentarians and Forum of Young Parliamentarians, and the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians, and the Committee to Promote Respect for International Humanitarian Law. In addition, the Assembly will adopt resolutions on an emergency item and on the topic considered by the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights: "Inclusive social development for all: parliamentary policies to promote the realization of rights and the expansion of opportunities for people with disabilities."The Assembly is expected to conclude with the adoption of a document on the main topic of the general debate.
