Ensuring transparency and legality of the electoral process is a key task for international observers, member of the Council of the Republic Garik Barsamyan, who, on the day of the parliamentary elections in Armenia, monitored the voting as part of a group of international observers from the CIS IPA, BelTA learned from the press service of the Council of the Republic.

As part of the observation mission, the Belarusian MP, together with Deputy Secretary General of the CIS IPA Council — Plenipotentiary of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Khomenko, conducted monitoring at polling stations.

«Our task is to observe how the voting is proceeding, to see the turnout of the people, to check whether residents have access to polling stations, and to see if there are any violations of Armenia’s electoral law,» the observer said. He stressed that the observation mission did not interfere in the sovereign affairs of the country in any way. The citizens were choosing their parliament and their future for the next five years.

The observers also monitored the work of the staff who, in accordance with electoral legislation, enabled people with limited mobility to visit polling stations, and conducted an overall monitoring of the situation at the polling stations.

The observers will compile their observations from visiting polling stations in different cities of the country and will prepare a general report within the framework of the CIS IPA on the conduct of the elections.

Garik Barsamyan added that he is grateful to the Council of the Republic for the honor of serving as an observer within the CIS IPA at the elections to the Parliament of the Republic of Armenia.
