06.02.2026 | 12:54

Belarusian observers have arrived in Thailand to monitor major electoral events scheduled for 8 February 2026, BelTA reports citing the Central Election Commission (CEC).

The mission consists of CEC member Andrei Gurzhy and a representative of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee in charge of election affairs Olga Demko.

This Sunday, two major events are to be held: the election to the House of Representatives and a nationwide referendum.

Thai citizens will elect 500 deputies, with 400 coming from single-member constituencies and 100 from party lists. The political party or coalition that secures at least 251 seats will earn the right to form a new government. According to data from the Election Commission of Thailand, 57 political parties are competing for seats in the House of Representatives.

During the nationwide referendum, citizens will be asked to answer the following question: «Do you agree that Thailand needs a new constitution?» An affirmative vote will set in motion the process of replacing the current 2017 constitution.
