According to Igor Sergeyenko, the venue for the seminar was chosen not by chance. It is a unique site in Minsk, which many Belarusians choose for marriage ceremonies. Last September, the renovated Loshitsa historical and cultural complex was visited by the head of state. «Aleksandr Lukashenko has repeatedly emphasized that a truly strong family is a continuation not only of someone’s name, but of the entire Belarusian people. The cult of a full family with two or more children should become a lifestyle. As the president noted yesterday at a meeting with the Council of Ministers, motherhood and fatherhood should become a fashionable trend. The formula is simple: two parents, two children. Only this way can we be confident that future generations will continue, firmly holding sovereignty in their hands and living in peace,» he stressed.
Igor Sergeyenko noted that the Code on Marriage and Family does not directly impact the birth rate or the demographic issues, but it does create guarantees for the protection of the rights of every family member, making marriage and family more stable and attractive for having children. «The protection and strengthening of the institution of family and marriage, according to the Constitution of our country, is a priority of state policy, and its effective implementation is impossible without proper legal regulation. Several years ago, we adopted a law providing for adjustments to certain provisions of the Code on Marriage and Family. The changes affected a wide range of issues and were targeted in nature, from the property interests of minors to the registration of civil status acts. But today, there is a growing need for comprehensive improvement of the code, taking into account both the accumulated law enforcement practice and advancing technologies,» Igor Sergeyenko explained.
