Belarusian pentathletes win three medals at Friendship Cup opener

The traditional Modern Pentathlon Friendship Cup, featuring athletes from Belarus and Russia, has kicked off in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

The first medals of the tournament were contested by pentathletes under 17 years of age. Among the boys, Klim Gnedtchik of Belarus took second place, scoring a total of 1,515 points across all disciplines and finishing just 4 seconds behind Russia’s Yegor Kushnarenko in the laser-run. In the team event, the Belarus-1 team (Klim Gnedtchik, Maksim Hrynenka, Leonid Boreyko) also claimed silver.

Among the girls, Ksenia Bondareva was the best Belarusian, finishing in fifth place. The winner was Russia’s Viktoria Sokolova. In the team competition, the Belarusian trio of Palina Slepchankova, Palina Murashka, and Katsiaryna Sachyuka won bronze medals.

On 13 May, the Friendship Cup medalists will be determined in the under-19 junior men’s competition, with the under-19 junior women’s event taking place the following day.
