Belarusians advised to stay away from number of European countries

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sees a deterioration of the security situation in a number of European states and has therefore issued a travel advisory for citizens, the ministry’s press service told BelTA.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted: «According to incoming information, a sharp deterioration of the domestic political situation is observed in a number of European states, including individual member states of the European Union, accompanied by mass actions, including those involving radically minded individuals, reports of disproportionate use of force by law enforcement agencies, and arbitrary detentions.»

Therefore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly recommends that Belarusian citizens refrain from non-essential travel to France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Albania and, in the absence of pressing need, postpone or cancel such trips.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs drew attention to the fact that a curfew has already been introduced in individual regions of France. «We cannot rule out that it will be extended to the entire territory of the country, that a state of emergency will be declared as well as the introduction of similar restrictive measures in other states affected by the unrest, including restrictions on the operation of public transport and disruptions in the operation of the Internet and communications,» the Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes.

Belarusian citizens staying in the territory of the said states are advised to implement higher security measures, avoid places of mass gatherings of people and areas where protest actions are held, and monitor reports from local authorities and Belarusian diplomatic missions.

If the situation deteriorates further, it is recommended to leave the territories of the said states by available commercial routes.

The ministry added: «We also draw attention to possible restrictions on the availability of consular and legal assistance due to the small number of staff at Belarusian diplomatic missions in the said countries. We recommend saving the emergency contacts of these diplomatic missions in advance.»
