The first power unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) has generated more than 39 billion kWh of electricity, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Energy Ministry.

Five years ago, on 10 June 2021, the acceptance commission signed the act placing Power Unit No. 1 of the Belarusian NPP into commercial operation.

«Since it was connected to the national power grid on 3 November 2020, the unit has generated over 39 billion kWh of electricity and has fully confirmed its design characteristics in terms of safety and efficiency. During its operation, four fuel campaigns have been completed, and four scheduled preventive maintenance procedures have been carried out in accordance with regulations,» the plant’s press service noted.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total output capacity of 2,400MW has been built according to the Russian design AES-2006. It is an evolutionary nuclear power plant design with third-generation water-moderated reactors with enhanced safety. They boast improved technical and economic parameters. A unique combination of active and passive safeguards is their key peculiarity.
