The defendant was a 20-year-old resident of the regional center. From August 2025 to April 2026, he was running a scheme to rent out his roommate’s apartment. He offered to rent a house to both his friends and strangers. The young man convinced the clients that the apartment would be available for occupancy in due time. I accepted payments in dollars, euros, and Belarusian rubles in cash and by bank card transfers. Thus, he deceived 16 people, having seized the amount of over 14 thousand rubles. 

«At the same time, none of the tenants moved into the apartment, as the owner lived there. The accused spent the money he received for personal purposes, and also used it to partially repay debts to defrauded people,» the prosecutor’s office noted. 

A criminal case was opened under Parts 2 and 3 of Article 209 (fraud committed repeatedly and on a large scale) of the Criminal Code. He was investigated by the Brest interdistrict Department of the Investigative Committee. The materials were examined by the Brest Prosecutor’s Office and came to the conclusion that the charges were justified and that the circumstances of the crimes were objectively investigated. The defendant remains in custody. The criminal case has been sent to court.
