Brest to host first national championships in rowing beach sprint

11.08.2026 | 17:05

Brest will host the Belarus Championship and the Belarus Junior Championship in rowing beach sprint on 12-15 August. The competitions will be held on the Central Embankment and the Rowing Canal, BelTA learned from the Brest Oblast Olympic Reserve Center for Rowing.

«Competitions at the national level in this format will be held for the first time. Rowing beach sprint is a new discipline for Belarus, combining running, rowing and high speed. Athletes start from the shore, cover a short running course, then get into a boat and race 500 meters, after which they return to the shore and sprint back,» the center explained.

The opening parade will take place on 14 August at 2:30 p.m. Over the course of two days, spectators will be able to watch qualifying, preliminary, quarterfinal, semifinal and final heats.

Fifty adult athletes — representing the regional teams and Minsk — will compete in the championship. The same number of entrants are registered for the national junior championship, which features young people, both men and women, born in 2008–2009. Qualifying heats will begin on 14 August: at 9 a.m. for adults, and at 11 a.m. for juniors. «The spectacle of the heats is best showcased at the open-air city beach area near the Central Embankment,» the center noted.

The competition will serve as a qualifier for selecting the national team roster for the European and World Championships in rowing beach sprint.
