Dunhuang aims to strengthen cooperation with Belarus, leveraging its Silk Road history and Belt and Road participation. Existing ties with Novogrudok and media support will aid this effort.

Belarus and China will further their efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation across various sectors and together create a remarkable new chapter in the Silk Road’s history, Deputy Secretary of the Dunhuang Municipal Party Committee, China Zhu Jianjun said during a meeting with Belarusian journalists, BelTA has learned.

Zhu Jianjun emphasized that true friendship knows no distance, and Dunhuang representatives are committed to utilizing all available opportunities to develop mutually beneficial relations.

He highlighted that Dunhuang, a city with over two millennia of history, was a vital region along the ancient Silk Road, renowned for its beauty and landmarks. Today, Dunhuang continues its tradition as an interregional hub and actively participates in the Belt and Road initiative, in which Belarus also plays a significant role.

«Our friendship with Belarus is growing stronger,» the vice mayor stated. «In 2021, Dunhuang and Novogrudok District established contacts, and in 2023, they signed a friendship agreement. Since then, exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation have been steadily developing, guided by agreements between the leaders of both countries.»

Zhu Jianjun also expressed confidence that the media from both nations will help strengthen ties between Belarus and China.

Dunhuang is one of China’s most ancient cities, preserving artistic treasures that fully reflect the rich culture of the Chinese nation. It is home to three UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites: the Mogao Caves, the Yumen Pass, and the Xuanquan Station.
