On 17 September, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Bakytzhan Sagintayev launched the EAEU Days at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) headquarters in Beijing, the EEC press service told BelTA.

«The EAEU Days offer a great chance to bring our friends and partners closer to the Eurasian Economic Union, highlighting its development achievements, current priorities, and future plans,» Bakytzhan Sagintayev said.

During its 12 years of operation, the EAEU has established itself as a major economic hub of the modern world. The internal market is consistently being reinforced, opportunities for citizens and businesses are expanding, and international cooperation is developing further. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization occupies a special position among the EAEU’s partners. «The Eurasian Economic Commission and the SCO Secretariat are bound by long-standing professional relations. They are rooted in mutual respect, shared approaches to cooperation, and a commitment to fostering the sustainable development of states within the Eurasian space,» Bakytzhan Sagintayev emphasized.

The chairman of the EEC Board expressed confidence that the EAEU and the SCO have substantial potential for deepening economic cooperation. This momentum is driven by a mutual interest in enhancing transport connectivity, implementing modern technologies, expanding trade, and creating new opportunities for business.

Four states (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia) are members of both organizations. The EAEU has established various cooperation formats with the nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Specifically, a trade and economic agreement is in effect with China, while a free trade agreement has been concluded with Iran. Iran and Uzbekistan hold the status of observer states to the EAEU. An active negotiation process is being pursued with India, alongside a developing dialogue with Pakistan.

Bakytzhan Sagintayev also held a working meeting with SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev. «Following the meeting, the parties highly commended the established trust-based dialogue and expressed their intention to maintain the momentum of relations, consistently elevating cooperation to a more systematic and practice-oriented level,» the press service noted.
