20.10.2026 | 16:00

Transport (104.8%), trade (104%), and agriculture (103.8%) led gross value added (GVA) growth in Belarus in January—September 2026, the press service of the Economy Ministry told BelTA.

According to the National Statistical Committee, Belarus’ GDP growth rate reached 102% in January—September 2026. Transport (104.8%), trade (104%), and agriculture (103.8%) led gross value added growth. In the transport sector, passenger traffic and freight volume demonstrated high growth rates, up 7.6% and 2.9% respectively.

The performance in trade was driven by retail sector, which grew by 8.7% in January—September. This growth was supported by an 8.2% in real income of the population in January—August, alongside low inflation, which stood at 4.6% year-on-year. Wholesale trade also showed positive growth, ticking up to 100.2%.

In the agricultural industry, the production growth rate reached 104.6% in January—September. A slight deceleration compared to the previous month was driven by a seasonal realignment in the harvesting deadlines for vegetables and silage, as well as winter crop sowing. Within agricultural enterprises and farms, positive dynamics in crop production were primarily fueled by a surge in rapeseed output (up 1.5 times) and fruit and berry yields (up 2.2 times). In livestock farming, growth was driven by increased production volumes for milk, alongside higher breeding figures for pigs, poultry, and cattle.

The industrial production index (IPI) stood at 100.5% in January—September 2026, ticking up by 0.3 percentage points compared to the January—August period. At the same time, some sectors, including energy, pharmaceuticals, and the food industry, demonstrated even faster growth rates. Meanwhile, inventories continued their downward trend: as of 1 October 2026, stock levels dropped to 75.1% of the average monthly output, down 5 percentage points from the same period last year.

In January—September 2026, more than 2.7 million square meters of housing were commissioned, including nearly 335,000 square meters built with government support.

Fixed capital investment rose by 2.1%. Enterprises continue to invest in technological upgrades and equipment procurement, showing a growth rate of 103.4%.

Exports of goods and services (measured by balance of payments methodology) in January—August 2026 jumped 13.4% compared to the same period in 2025. Belarus also expanded cooperation with non-CIS countries, with product shipments to Asian nations surging 1.4-fold. Meanwhile, service exports showed rapid growth, climbing 23.3%, driven primarily by transport and tourism.

The steady economic performance continues to support high salaries, with the average salary exceeding Br2,980 in January—August 2026. At the same time, the average old-age pension surpassed Br1,060.
