02.06.2026 | 14:33

Belarus has gained international recognition as a producer of agricultural machinery and a supplier of technologies, Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Qu Dongyu said at the official ceremony to open the Belarusian Agro Industrial Week in Minsk on 2 June, BelTA has learned.

According to the FAO Director General, Belagro 2026 is one of the largest agricultural exhibitions, demonstrating the global importance of innovation, entrepreneurship, science, and technology. «This event brings together farmers, scientists, machinery manufacturers, food producers, investors, and policymakers. All of them contribute to the future of agrifood systems. I am very pleased to see the scale of this event and the impressive progress showcased here from high-tech agricultural machinery to precision farming technologies,» Qu Dongyu emphasized.

He expressed gratitude to Belarus for the high level of organization, the quality of the products presented, and praised the technological level of Belarusian agriculture. «Belarus has established itself as an important agricultural producer in Eastern Europe and Eurasia. It also plays a significant role in regional food supply chains and contributes to global food security through trade and agricultural cooperation. At the same time, Belarus has earned international recognition for its expertise in agricultural engineering, the production of agricultural machinery, and the supply of technologies to many countries,» he added.

Today, agriculture is changing under the influence of new technologies: artificial intelligence, precision farming, biotechnology, improved equipment quality, data-processing systems, and innovative business models. «In the future, agriculture will increasingly depend on how effectively we can combine science with practice, innovation with investment, and technology with the needs of farmers,» Qu Dongyu said. «I also see opportunities for Belarus to share its experience and technologies with other countries. Many developing nations are looking for practical solutions to increase productivity, modernize agriculture, and strengthen their food security. FAO is ready to continue strengthening joint efforts to support the transformation of Belarus’ agro-industrial and agrifood systems so they can become more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.»

Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Ahmad Saidmurodzoda noted that the high level, the number of participating countries, and the scale of this year’s exhibition are clear evidence of the growing authority of this platform not only for Belarus, but for the entire SCO and Eurasian region. «With Belarus joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2024, Minsk is demonstrating a truly constructive approach to more practice-oriented cooperation within the organization. For the SCO, it is a great source of pride that Belarus has become the next, tenth member state,» he emphasized.

«In the coming period, we have very interesting work ahead of us, including with the involvement of the expertise of our Belarusian colleagues in manufacturing and agriculture,» Ahmad Saidmurodzoda said.
