According to the chairman of the Grodno City Executive Committee, a set of systematic measures is being implemented in Grodno in accordance with the head of state’s instruction on developing the tourism potential of the regions. «Our priorities are developing the hotel infrastructure, creating a comfortable urban environment as a foundation for the leisure of tourists and city residents, and developing new tourist routes,» said Andrei Khmel.
As many as 18 hotels and 9 hostels with the total capacity of 681 rooms and 1,557 beds operate in Grodno now in addition to two health resorts with 218 rooms and the capacity to house 395 guests. Over the past three years the city’s room capacity increased by 60%. Nevertheless, there is a shortage of accommodations at the height of the tourist season. Three more tourist accommodations are supposed to open by the end of this year: two hotels and a hostel with the combined capacity of 100 people.
In January-May 2026 the export of tourism services exceeded $3 million, showing a growth rate of 151%, the head of the city administration emphasized. At the same time, the average spending per foreign visitor has tripled, and tourists from the Russian Federation account for over 80% of Grodno’s visitors.
Starting in 2026, a list of investment projects aimed at developing the city’s tourism potential is being compiled. Fifteen applications have already been submitted. If all projects are successfully implemented, an additional 390 rooms accommodating more than 890 guests will be added by 2030. It is projected that by that time, the number of available rooms will have increased more than fourfold compared to 2023.
«The key driver of the growth of tourism appeal is the revitalization of Grodno’s iconic historic sites. A large-scale investment project to renovate a former brewery on the banks of the Neman River is currently in full swing. The complex is scheduled to open to visitors by the summer of 2027. The investor’s next step will be to begin building a new hotel in September 2026. It will tie the complex together as a single entity and become a key facility in the hospitality industry in time for the city’s 900th anniversary, which we will celebrate in two years,» said the chairman of the Grodno City Executive Committee.
A major renovation of the right bank of the Neman River will be a gift to the city and, of course, to tourists. In July 2026 the first phase began in the section stretching from the Kolozha Church to the mouth of the Gorodnichanka River. Next up is the development of recreational areas, pedestrian walkways, and bike paths.
Another important project is the Lazurny Aquatic Center. Once reconstruction is complete, it is supposed to open this autumn. Construction of a palace of team sports is ongoing. The complex will include a main competition hall with 2,000 spectator seats and a training hall as well as a full-fledged aquatic area with a 50-meter swimming pool. This complex will enable Grodno to host national competitions at a whole new level, thereby promoting sport tourism.
«The idea for a large-scale renovation of the garden square in Darvina Street arose during a visit by members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly,» noted the Grodno mayor. The first and second phases of the renovation were completed within the calendar year. Plans include creating a single pedestrian loop that will lead tourists directly to the new Lazurny Aquatic Center. A large-scale modernization of the beaches at Yubileinoye Lake has been carried out. In 2025, the facility took first place in a national competition."
Grodno is striving to cement its status as the capital of flowers. The abundance of flowers is becoming the city’s calling card. The Grodnozelenstroy enterprise alone has planted 1.3 million plants. Over the past three years, the number of flowers and other plants planted in Grodno has tripled. City businesses and institutions have picked up on this trend. New, unique tourist routes are being developed.
«We clearly see the prospects and are drawing up new plans for tourism development,» concluded Andrei Khmel.
