«We regard this visit as one of the most important stages in the further development of bilateral relations and the strengthening of the spirit of cooperation established by our heads of state during the official visit of the president of Belarus to Algeria in December 2025. We view Algeria as one of our key partners in North Africa and on the African continent — a true friend of Belarus. We are united by mutual respect and similar approaches to fundamental issues on the international agenda,» said Maxim Ryzhenkov.
The minister noted that during the meeting, the parties thoroughly discussed the state and prospects of political dialogue, reaffirmed their mutual interest in maintaining intensive contacts between the foreign ministries of the two countries, continuing political consultations, and preparing for new high-level and top-level meetings. «A significant part of the talks was devoted to the development of trade and economic cooperation. We agree that the existing potential for bilateral interaction far exceeds current trade volumes. Our common task is to fill the political dialogue with concrete economic projects,» the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs emphasized.
Maxim Ryzhenkov recalled that in December 2025, the two heads of state set an ambitious goal — to reach $500 million in mutual trade by the end of 2027. «The foreign ministries, other ministries, and governments of both countries are doing everything to achieve this goal. I would like to recall that during the president’s visit to Algeria, a number of very important bilateral agreements were signed, laying the foundation for cooperation across many areas. A cooperation roadmap was also signed to help reach the $500 million trade target and establish a foundation for human-to-human and interstate relations in all areas,» the minister said.
In addition, a number of initial contracts were signed for the supply of Belarusian products to Algeria and Algerian products to Belarus. These have already yielded concrete results. Belarusian exports to Algeria in the first half of 2026 amounted to nearly $80 million. «That is twice as much as for the entire year of 2025,» Maxim Ryzhenkov emphasized.
The cooperation roadmap between the two countries outlines 43 areas currently being worked on. «According to our Algerian friends, 21 of these areas have already delivered more than successful results, and some of these projects have already been completed. And this, I would like to remind you, is in less than eight months since the official visit. We are very pleased that projects for the supply of Belarusian food products, milk powder, dry whey, and cream to Algeria are being implemented at a very decent level. We are also pleased that projects to set up assembly plants for Belarusian machinery in Algeria are at an advanced stage of development. We have come close to implementing a project to build grain drying and storage complexes. In addition, a group of children from Algeria, following the decision of our president, has already visited the Zubrenok national children’s camp and was very satisfied with their stay and health program there,» the minister said.
A number of mutual visits by delegations from both states have also taken place, and businesspeople from the two countries have attended various exhibitions in Algeria and Belarus. «In the near future, Belarus’ deputy prime minister will visit Algeria to finalize a number of industrial cooperation projects. In October, we will hold a meeting of the joint Belarusian-Algerian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation in Minsk to assess the progress of all the projects agreed upon by the presidents. We have a long road ahead, many intentions, but the spirit of true brotherhood, respect, and political will that unites our presidents is the main foundation for implementing everything we have planned. I would also like to note that today’s talks with the president of Belarus were highly commended. The head of state, as I was informed, characterized them as promising, serious, and practice-oriented,» Maxim Ryzhenkov concluded.
Ahmed Attaf noted that his visit to Belarus is taking place against the backdrop of a qualitative development in bilateral relations. «The talks with the president of Belarus allowed us to assess bilateral cooperation and identify further prospects and ways to translate political will into tangible achievements. Today, we noted the need to move from the stage of discussion and exchange of views to the stage of implementation, analysis, and evaluation in order to achieve the goals set by the leaders of our two countries during the visit of the president of Belarus to Algeria in December 2025,» the minister said.
He also pointed out that current levels of trade and investment cooperation do not yet match the existing potential. «Therefore, we emphasized the need to prepare further steps that will allow us to implement a large number of projects,» Ahmed Attaf stressed.
