From food to machinery: An expert’s take on Belarus-Indonesia cooperation prospects

10.08.2026 | 13:30

Belarus can cooperate with Indonesia across a range of sectors, including food supplies and mining equipment, Yulia Abukhovich, an economic expert and head of the Aksios educational center at Giprosvyaz, BelTA reports.

«Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world. Naturally, this opens up significant opportunities for Belarus in terms of food supplies, because a nation as large as Indonesia has a clear need for it,» Yulia Abukhovich emphasized. In addition, she noted, to satisfy its domestic food market, Indonesia also needs potash fertilizers, which Belarus can supply.

Another promising avenue for cooperation, she noted, lies in the supply of mining equipment, given Indonesia’s robust mining sector. The country ranks among the world’s top producers of thermal coal, tin, copper, and other minerals. «Indonesia is in great need of equipment for the mining industry, and our machinery can perform successfully there,» Yulia Abukhovich said confidently.

Commenting on the recent visit of the Belarusian head of state to Indonesia, she drew attention to the unprecedented level of ceremony with which Aleksandr Lukashenko was received, including a company of the honor guard and a motorcycle escort, while Air Force One was accompanied by Indonesian fighter jets on its approach to Jakarta. «This shows that Belarus is trusted and regarded as a reliable partner. This is undoubtedly a credit to our leader, who truly represents the interests of the state,» Yulia Abukhovich added.
