HC Dinamo Minsk become first to reach Gagarin Cup quarterfinals

31.03.2026 | 09:13

HC Dinamo Minsk defeated their Moscow namesakes in the first round of the 2026 Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) playoffs, BelTA has learned.

The fourth game between the teams took place at VTB Arena in Moscow. Just four minutes into the match, the Bisons forward Stanislav Galiyev found the target, but the goal was disallowed due to interference with the goaltender. Shortly before the intermission, the Russian forward again sent the puck into the opposing net — and this time according to the rules. This point became Galiyev’s 300th in the KHL.

In the second period, Moscow’s Nikita Gusev found himself in a similar situation — his first goal was disallowed after a video review, but on his next accurate shot on the power play, the referees had no questions, 1-1. The opponents did not score again in regulation time, and the first overtime also failed to produce a winner. Only at the 88th minute of the game did Galiev score a double to bring victory to the Bisons, 2-1.

The first two legs of the Dinamo derby in Minsk ended in wins for our side, 3-1 and 4-1. Then on 28 March in Moscow, the Bisons again prevailed in overtime (2-1). Earlier in the regular season, Dinamo had achieved its best-ever finish — 2nd place in the Western Conference.

Our team has advanced to the Gagarin Cup quarterfinals for the second consecutive season, having not reached this stage at all in the previous 15 years. Minsk’s next opponent will be one of the clubs from the Eastern Conference, with the second round of the playoffs starting on 8-9 April. A year ago, Dmitry Kvartalnov’s team lost in the quarterfinals to HC Traktor Chelyabinsk (1–4 in the series).
