Import substitution in focus: Belarus’ major construction projects of 2026 revealed

03.08.2026 | 17:21

Architecture and Construction Minister Vadim Olshevsky detailed the major projects implemented in Belarus’ construction sector in 2026 during a press conference on 3 August, BelTA has learned.

According to Vadim Olshevsky, Belarus is moving toward full self-sufficiency in key construction materials. Significant investment projects were delivered in 2026. For instance, the Krichevcementnoshifer enterprise mastered a technology to produce synthetic gypsum from phosphogypsum. The company has launched the production of synthetic gypsum stone using this new method, allowing it to partially replace imported gypsum.

The Belmedsteklo company has completed the modernization of its vial production line using innovative technologies. «The production of medical vials was established using exclusively domestic glass tubing. This is strategically vital — we are moving away from importing this product, thereby strengthening the security of the pharmaceutical industry,» the minister explained.

Particular attention is paid not only to economic efficiency but also to reducing environmental impact. Since 2024, the Krasnoselskstroimaterialy enterprise has been gradually increasing the use of alternative refuse-derived fuel (RDF) made from processed municipal waste in its dry-process clinker production.

«In 2024, only 120 tonnes of this fuel were used. In 2025, that figure rose to 805 tonnes, and this year it is around 6,600 tonnes. This allows us to replace more than 5,000 tonnes of imported hard coal. The financial impact has exceeded Br1 million. The environmental benefit is that over 6,000 tonnes of waste avoided landfills and were instead converted into energy. We are not just building factories — we are building a clean energy future,» Vadim Olshevsky emphasized.
