Ivashka, Ostapenkov continue winning runs at ATP Challenger tournaments

Belarusian tennis player Ilya Ivashka advanced to the second round of the ATP Challenger 75 tournament in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Poland, with a prize fund of €97,600, BelTA has learned.



In the round of 32, Ilya Ivashka faced Ergi Kirkin of Türkiye. He won the first set without much trouble, 6-1. In the second set, he led 5-3 but lost four games in a row to make it 5-5, before taking the deciding set 6-3. The match lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes. Ilya Ivashka will next face Harold Mayot of France for a place in the quarterfinals. The Belarusian earned his place in the main draw through qualifying, where he defeated Melvin Kumar of Sweden 6-2, 6-1 and Oscar Weightman of Great Britain 6-4, 6-1. 

At the ATP Challenger 50 tournament in Istanbul, Türkiye, with a prize fund of $63,000, Belarusian Daniil Ostapenkov came from a set down to beat Constantin Bittoun Kouzmine of France 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) in a match that lasted two and a half hours. In the round of 16, Daniil Ostapenkov will take on another French player, Florent Bax. In qualifying, Daniil Ostapenkov defeated Yurii Dzhavakian of Ukraine 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, before falling to Koki Matsuda of Japan 6-7 (6-8), 3-6 in the qualifying final. In the doubles competition, Daniil Ostapenkov and Tiago Pereira of Portugal will open their campaign against the Russian-Cypriot pairing of Semen Pankin and Eleftherios Neos.

The tournaments in Poland and Türkiye will conclude on 9 August.
