A nationwide scientific and practical seminar, Modern Approaches to Endoprosthetics of Large Joints, was held at the National Scientific and Practical Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics on 23 September, as part of which leading orthopedists from Belarus and Switzerland conducted a landmark workshop for 20 Belarusian specialists, BelTA learned from the Healthcare Committee of the Minsk City Hall.

The main event of the day was a rare workshop held as part of an international cooperation program for 20 Belarusian specialists by Chief Freelance Traumatologist-Orthopedist of the Healthcare Ministry, Director of the National Scientific and Practical Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics, Head of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the Belarusian State Medical University, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Mikhail Gerasimenko and his Swiss colleague — Professor, Head Physician of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology at Civil Hospital Solothurn Nader Helmy.

The operations were performed by specialists of the National Scientific and Practical Center for Traumatology under the leadership of Professor Mikhail Gerasimenko. Professor Nader Helmy took part in the operations as a consulting surgeon.

The main feature of the operation is the use of innovative instrumentation for kinematic alignment. This advanced technique makes it possible to install the implant with maximum consideration for the patient’s individual anatomy, preserving the natural biomechanics of movement.

«Belarus has become the first country in the CIS to apply this innovative approach in practice, which consolidates the country’s status as the region’s technological leader in the field of orthopedics. For Belarusian doctors, this is a rare opportunity to see the finest nuances of a foreign expert’s work in real time,» Mikhail Gerasimenko emphasized.

In addition to work at the operating table, the seminar program includes an intensive lecture block from the Swiss professor. Participants are studying modern techniques of primary knee joint endoprosthetics and advanced solutions in the field of complex revision (repeat) hip joint endoprosthetics, when a previously installed prosthesis needs to be replaced.

«This seminar has become a unique platform for professional growth for the medical community. Dialogue with foreign colleagues, the analysis of clinical cases and the mastering of high-tech methods make it possible to promptly introduce the best world practices in hospitals across the country. The result of such cooperation will be thousands of successful operations and the return of the joy of movement to thousands of Belarusian patients,» Mikhail Gerasimenko added.
