Welcoming the CSTO Secretary General, the President noted that today’s meeting is a good opportunity to address the entire range of military and political issues. According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, Belarus has recently completed its snap thorough inspection in the Armed Forces.
«The task set was to act as if at war. We made no secret that the army is there to protect national interests. We must always be prepared for the worst-case scenario. The best comes of its own accord, as our people say,» the Belarusian leader noted.
The President emphasised Mr. Masadykov’s extensive life experience, which will surely be beneficial in his new role, «I have reviewed your background again: you have worked in international organisations as well as within UN bodies. You have also served as the Deputy Head of the CSTO apparatus. This means you are very familiar with this area and have a deep understanding of it. You are aware that the Belarusian side has fully supported your candidacy. You also recognise that Belarus has always been a driver in developing relations within the CSTO and other post-Soviet structures in our former Soviet Union region. Our methods are completely transparent; we hide nothing and keep no secrets.»
