The agenda of the meeting included a report by government representatives on the Key Guidelines for Implementing the Union State Treaty for 2024-2026.
«At the moment, only 40% of sectoral measures have been completed (125 out of 310). A relatively small number of assignments are behind schedule (14, which is just 4.5%),» the president said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that it is necessary to simultaneously ensure the preparation of substantive Key Guidelines for the next three-year period, from 2027 to 2029. «Most importantly, they must be fulfilled. They should be focused primarily on ensuring the technological sovereignty of the Union State and maintaining technological parity with other countries. We are capable of doing this, as we are already successfully doing in certain areas and individual sectors,» the head of state emphasized.
The governments of Belarus and Russia and the Permanent Committee of the Union State must study these directions thoroughly and comprehensively so that further progress can be made at the pace required by the current situation, Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
«We are guided by real-life needs in the development of the Union State, moving toward a higher level of integration and creating intergovernmental bodies where they are needed,» the president stressed.
As examples of such bodies, Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned the Interstate Center of the Customs Committee, the Tax Committee, and the Union State Hydrometeorological Service. On the agenda of the current Supreme State Council meeting is a decision to establish a Union State Committee on Standardization and Quality, which is intended to ensure quality control of products on the common market and help remove technical barriers in mutual trade.
In addition, this year the status of «Union State product» received its legal framework. «It is important to ensure that behind this attractive official label, there is real support and protection for the interests of Belarusian and Russian manufacturers of joint products,» the Belarusian leader said.
According to him, new opportunities for citizens of the Union State will be created by the soon-to‑be‑launched cross‑border railway routes Vitebsk-Smolensk and Orsha-Smolensk. «This is exactly what we need. And then there will be no need to persuade anyone to be in a union. We must take these steps for the people,» Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.
