Lukashenko vows to protect trade interests, insists on decent rural services

07.08.2026 | 11:44

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko promised to protect trade interests while pushing for better service standards in rural areas as he spoke during his working visit to Vileyka District on 7 August, BelTA has learned.

The president noted that the state has done a great deal to organize trade in rural areas, with relevant regulations already adopted.

«The rural areas must be served properly if we expect anything from them,» Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized when discussing trade organization in rural areas. Both the range and quality of goods must be adequate.

At the same time, the president promised to take into account the interests of retail chains and not to harm them, as they obviously cannot operate at a loss. However, if they have found a «goldmine» and are making profits in large cities, they should also take on the additional responsibility of serving small villages.

«I will control this strictly and hold people accountable,» said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
