The generally established retirement age in Belarus is 58 for women and 63 for men. If an employee conscientiously performs their duties, does not commit violations of production-technological, executive, and labor discipline, and has no more than two years left until retirement, the employer is obliged to extend their contract or conclude a new one at least until they reach retirement age.
Workers of retirement age and those within five years of reaching it, are entitled to additional time off from work for medical checkups — two working days once a year, with their average earnings preserved.
Citizens of pre-retirement age (five years before the generally established retirement age) are provided with a possibility of employment against a reserved quota, and the employment service helps them find work and undergo retraining. A pensioner may continue working without restrictions — under an employment contract or a contract — while receiving a full pension. Age does not affect wages, the length of vacation, or other labor rights.
In addition, an employee who has reached retirement age has the right to terminate their contract early, citing reaching retirement age as a valid reason. The ministry emphasized that dismissal or refusal to hire solely because of age is not permitted.
