«The key factor in food security is ensuring that affordable food products made in our country are available on store shelves. The key indicators here are potatoes, meat, and milk. We can confidently say that we have reached a certain level of self-sufficiency: we are 100% self-sufficient in potatoes and vegetables, and more than 100% self-sufficient in meat, while our milk production meets around 300% of domestic demand. These are products that we produce and are able to export,» Igor Dorofeichik said.
Inna Tolkacheva, a member of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic on Legislation and State Building, Director of Soligorsk Poultry Farm, said that Belarus’ self-sufficiency ratio for eggs stood at 1.3, meaning that the country produces a 30% surplus for export. «Today, agricultural processing is a promising area that needs to develop continuously. Our enterprise processes around 40% of its output. We produce quail eggs on a substantial scale, with production expected to reach almost 240 million eggs in 2026. By comparison, the Russian Federation as a whole produced 350 million in 2025,» she said.
Igor Dorofeichik noted that Belarus has set the task of increasing apple production and providing the population with tomatoes. «Many projects are underway to build greenhouses. We are already 100% self-sufficient in cucumbers. We are moving towards maximum self-sufficiency in high-quality, safe food produced in our region while minimizing imports,» he said.
