Around 2,600 schools in Belarus will open their doors to more than one million students, Deputy Education Minister Vladimir Dolzhenkov told the media on 18 August, BelTA has learned.

Two schools will continue major renovations and will operate with students temporarily relocated. «In all other schools, the academic year will begin as scheduled on 1 September,» Vladimir Dolzhenkov said.

In his words, major repairs are being completed in 126 schools, with around Br130 million allocated for this purpose. About Br10 million have been set aside for cafeteria upgrades, and more than 1,500 units of new kitchen equipment have been purchased.

The deputy minister added that the school meal system will change as of 1 September. With a single meal, a second breakfast will be mandatory, and for students in the second shift, an afternoon snack will be provided. Meal allowance rates will increase by 5%. It has been decided that the allowance will be adjusted annually from 1 January based on consumer price growth for food products, making the system more flexible. The range of cafeteria offerings has also been expanded, and schools are now allowed to install vending machines with products that meet child nutrition standards.
