Mikhail Chmyrev noted that a bilateral commission has been established to coordinate cooperation between Russia’s Altai Krai and Belarus. Last year, a large delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko took part in Siberian Field Day. «We are now preparing for the All-Russian Field Day. Seventy-five regions have already confirmed their participation, with nearly 1,000 people in the official delegation alone. Over 70,000 visitors are expected to attend the exhibition. A Belarusian delegation is also expected to arrive,» he said.
Altai Krai ranks first in Russia in terms of arable land, with 6.5 million hectares, of which 5.5 million hectares are allocated to spring sowing. The region is the world leader in buckwheat production, accounting for 60% of Russia’s output. It also ranks first in spring wheat production and oat sowing area. Altai is the only region beyond the Urals that grows and processes sugar beets, and it is among the top ten regions for livestock farming. Cheese-making and honey production are also well developed.
«There are many areas where we need to cooperate with Belarus to meet our needs. We will continue to develop this cooperation,» Mikhail Chmyrev emphasized.
At Belagro, representatives of the Russian region held meetings with the leadership of MTZ (Minsk Tractor Works) and Gomselmash.
«Currently, MTZ tractors account for 43% of our total tractor fleet. We want to raise that share to at least 50–60% in the near future. Gomselmash holds 30% of the market. We are also testing Belarusian varieties of grains, rapeseed, and buckwheat, and have seen good results with soybeans. We hope these varieties will be widely adopted,» Mikhail Chmyrev said.
Around 8,000 tractors are currently working in the fields. «We need high-performance tractors because Altai Krai has large fields — 4–5 kilometers in one direction. MTZ showcased such a model at the exhibition — an experimental prototype of the high-horsepower BELARUS-5425 tractor, 8th traction class with 542 horsepower,» said Mikhail Chmyrev.
The BELARUS-5425 is currently the most powerful tractor in the classic configuration. In terms of its technical level, it meets all the latest trends in modern tractor manufacturing.
