Sergeyenko: Belarus calls for closer CICA coordination with other Eurasian bodies

15.10.2026 | 18:00

Belarus advocates for aligning the operations of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) with other regional and international organizations, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Igor Sergeyenko said as he addressed the plenary session of the 7th CICA Summit, BelTA has learned.

«In the spirit of the ‘integration of integrations’ concept, we advocate for initiatives to align CICA’s operations with other regional and international organizations, such as the SCO and the EAEU,» the speaker noted.

The Belarusian side believes this will bring about a qualitative shift in pooling efforts to create a unified system of logistics routes, trade preferences, as well as industrial and economic chains across Eurasia.

The chairman of the House of Representatives noted that Belarus supports establishing a mechanism for financial and investment cooperation. Under current conditions, this tool is especially vital to provide additional stability to economic ties and to jointly counter illegal sanction pressure.

The speaker pointed to the mutually beneficial nature of trade and economic cooperation, as well as the long-term prospects for establishing export flows and a secure digital space. He noted that Belarus is always ready to share its expertise in ensuring food security and implementing humanitarian projects.

Igor Sergeyenko noted that amid an unprecedented escalation of tension, joint efforts aimed at strengthening confidence-building measures are more relevant than ever.

«Unfortunately, today we live in an era where trust is in acute deficit in relations between states and peoples. As a result, the potential for conflict has significantly increased. The world is being engulfed by violence and wars. They claim lives, tear families apart, reduce flourishing cities to ruins, and spark new waves of forced migration,» he said.

The speaker recalled the words of the Belarusian president, noting that current international relations have to be characterized «not in categories of trust and cooperation, but by using data on kilometers of new barriers and megatons of lethal weapons.»

The chairman of the House of Representatives emphasized that CICA is one of the most inclusive platforms in the newly emerging security architecture.

«The stated goal — expanding cooperation through developing multilateral approaches to promote peace, security, and stability in Asia — is one of our country’s foreign policy priorities,» Igor Sergeyenko said.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko is on a working visit to Azerbaijan, where he is attending the 7th CICA Summit on behalf of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko.
