The only complex in the country, which is also one of the few in the world for the production of feed amino acids, compound feeds, premixes and a number of other products of advanced grain processing is the «Belarusian National Biotechnological Corporation» (BNBC) Closed Joint Stock Company that this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. The construction of a strategic facility in the Pukhovichi district was carried out on the initiative and instructions of the President of the Republic of Belarus. Today this enterprise is unique not only for the CIS. There are only a few of such kind in the world. Thanks to the use of modern scientific developments by means of microbiological synthesis, four essential amino acids are produced here.
According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus Igor Dorofeichik, BNBC has become a symbol of innovative development for our country, especially for the agro-industrial complex. The production of our own amino acids, feed, and premixes is one of the components of the successes that we see in agriculture today. Milk yields have increased, weight gain is multiplying, growing time in beef cattle breeding has been reduced, and the next task was set to develop aquaculture.
The corporation offers modern solutions for growing fish. Recipes are developed for different types. Thus, the production of food for carp has already been mastered. The enterprise even acquired its own fish farm, and several experiments were carried out on converting carp to extruded feed. One of the ambitious goals is to grow this type of fish in our latitudes to marketable weight in one season, and not in three, as before. Such results have already been obtained in laboratory conditions.
The launch of the BNBC is associated with the technological sovereignty of the country; it made it possible not only to abandon the import of amino acids, but also to develop export potential: 80% of amino acids are sold outside the republic.
«From the very beginning, the Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation was created as a strategically important project for Belarus,» General Director of the BNBC CJSC Sergej Lozhechnik says. «The main result over 10 years includes not only the factories constructed and launch lines. We have learned to work in a complex technological area, formed a team of specialists who are able to manage such compound production, solve technological problems, adapt to new conditions, increase the efficiency of processes and move forward. This is the daily work of engineers, technologists, operators, power engineers, mechanics, laboratory specialists, employees responsible for quality, supply, and logistics.»
There are 18 different plants on the territory of the enterprise, and these are not separate production sites, but a single technological system where grain goes from raw material to a product with high added value. It not only uses its own raw material base but also creates a product of a higher technological level, increases the efficiency of the agro-industrial complex, develops import substitution and creates new export opportunities. Behind each product there is a complex technology; production requires high precision, discipline, quality control, and laboratory support. The company is also proud of the fact that it is environmentally friendly, because it has created a unique super-technological and highly efficient water and air purification site in the country.
Sergej Lozhechnik paid special attention to the role of Belarusian and Chinese relations.
«Chinese partners made a significant contribution to the implementation of the project, shared technological knowledge, engineering experience, approaches to organisation and solutions that made it possible to weld a facility of this level in Belarus.»
However, today BNBC employees can proudly say that not only that they were able to master complex biotechnological areas, create and develop high-tech production facilities, but also accumulate the enterprises’s own competencies. As the director of the enterprise said, the production of amino acids is associated with a large number of related products, previously unknown on our farms. Much work has been done to introduce them into the agricultural cycle. The company closely cooperates with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The contribution of those farms that provide sites for testing new products is also important.
Today, the biotechnological production of the enterprise is 100% loaded. BNBC faces new challenges, such as increasing the efficiency of existing production and the quality of animal feed, expanding the product line, developing aquaculture, strengthening its position in foreign markets, further improving technologies for deep processing of grain and creating products with even greater added value.
