Three Wimbledon tennis tournament semifinalists determined

Three semifinalists have been determined at the Wimbledon Championships, BelTA has learned.



In the women’s competition, Czech player Karolína Muchová (No. 9 in the WTA rankings) defeated Japan’s Naomi Osaka (world No. 14) in two sets, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. In the round of 16, Naomi Osaka beat the world No. 1, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka. In the semifinals, Karolína Muchová will face American Cori Gauff (No. 7), who overcame her compatriot Jessica Pegula (No. 4), 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Two more quarterfinals will take place on 8 July: Italy’s Jasmine Paolini (No. 17) will play Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk (No. 13), and Czech Linda Nosková (No. 12) will meet Belgium’s Elise Mertens (No. 27).

In the first men’s quarterfinal, world No. 1 Italian Jannik Sinner defeated Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff (No. 74), 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime (No. 4) is facing legendary Serbian Novak Djokovic (No. 8), Italy’s Flavio Cobolli (No. 10) will play Britain’s Arthur Fery (No. 114), and American Taylor Fritz (No. 7) will compete against Germany’s Alexander Zverev (No. 3).

The women’s singles final of the 139th Wimbledon tournament will take place on 11 July, and the men’s final will be held the following day. The total prize fund of this year’s competition is a record £62.4 million. The champions in the women’s and men’s singles will each earn £3.6 million. Last year, the titles were won by Poland’s Iga Świątek and Italy’s Jannik Sinner.
