Personnel of the Internal Affairs Ministry have erected a reliable barrier in the way of criminals. State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich made the statement during a solemn assembly held in the Palace of the Republic on the occasion of Police Day, BelTA has learned.

It is not easier for the modern generation of police officers to do their job in comparison with the period of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and after the war, Aleksandr Volfovich noted. «The geopolitical situation in the world is extremely tense,» he stressed. «Without a doubt it has a certain effect on risks and challenges in the field of ensuring national security. But today’s generation of police officers does not seek easy ways just like their predecessors. They courageously accomplish tasks in the line of protecting our citizens.»

Evaluating the work of the leadership and of all employees of the Internal Affairs Ministry, the state secretary of the Security Council stated with confidence that a reliable barrier had been erected in the way of criminals. Law enforcement officers reliably protect citizens in streets of various population centers.

Aleksandr Volfovich gave a fresh example. A band of young criminals tried to assault and rob Belarusian citizens in Smolevichi District. A police patrol unit needed less than six minutes to neutralize the criminals, who had arrived from another country. Hundreds upon hundreds of examples like that can be cited, he noted. The official added that Belarusian police officers work 24/7 without minding overtime.

The best evaluation of the work of Belarusian police is an objective view on the part of citizens, of the Belarusian nation, the state secretary of the Security Council noted. Aleksandr Volfovich remarked that when asked whether they are satisfied with the work of Belarusian police, Belarusian citizens say they are and add that they feel secure.

Aleksandr Volfovich pointed out that the current year is symbolic for the country: it is the year of the 85th anniversary since the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. He pointed out that since the first days of the war police officers together with units of the Red Army demonstrated courage and heroism and an example of defense and service to the Fatherland. It was manifested in the first few battles: during the defense of the Brest Fortress, during the defense of the Brest railway station. «We will never forget the unprecedented heroic deed of the battalion led by Police Captain Konstantin Vladimirov. It stopped the enemy’s overwhelming forces on approaches to the city of Mogilev and slowed down the enemy’s advance for a week,» he said.

«They sacrificed their lives to accomplish the assigned mission. We will remember and honor the memory of everyone, who fought on the frontlines of the Great Patriotic War, those who fought in partisan units, in the underground resistance movement, in the logistic rear as well as all those, who sacrificed their lives on the altar of the Great Victory,» the state secretary of the Security Council said.

He stressed that law enforcement officers remember and take pride in their history, making corresponding conclusions and learning their lessons out of this history.

Words of gratitude were also addressed to veterans of the Internal Affairs Ministry, who were present in the hall, as well as to those, who could not come. «You’ve devoted your life to the service to the Fatherland. Honestly and decently,» Aleksandr Volfovich said. He remarked that law enforcement veterans continue passing on their invaluable experience and raising the current generation of officers of the Internal Affairs Ministry.

In anticipation of Women’s Day, which is celebrated on 8 March, Aleksandr Volfovich had a few words of gratitude to say to the beautiful half of the Internal Affairs Ministry. He remarked that in addition to serving the Fatherland well and in addition to carrying out their missions female law enforcement officers manage to take care of their home affairs, «sharing some of the warmth with their families while staying probably the most rigorous guardians of law and order».

Families of officers of the Internal Affairs Ministry were also thanked. «They make up the reliable homefront, the bastion that inspires, encourages, and motivates our police officers to fight crime. They know perfectly well that their families wait for them at home and support them,» the state secretary of the Security Council said.
