Winter barley harvest almost 40% completed in Belarus

Belarus has harvested almost 40% of the areas planted to winter barley, BelTA learned from the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry.


«As of 13 July, winter barley in the country has been harvested on an area of 100,000 hectares, or 40% of the plan. The pace of the harvest exceeds last year’s in all regions. A total of 416,000 tons have been threshed, with an average yield of 42 centners per hectare,» the press service reported.

By region, the progress in the harvest looks as follows: Brest Oblast — 135,000 tonnes, Gomel Oblast — 98,000 tonnes, Grodno Oblast — 92,000 tonnes, Minsk Oblast — 70,000 tonnes, Mogilev Oblast — 19,000 tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast — less than 1,000 tonnes.

Second cut was harvested across an area of 431,000 hectares or 43% of the plan (1.010 million hectares).

Hay production has reached 323,000 tonnes or 46% of the plan. Silage output has reached 9.683 million tonnes or 68% of the target. Region-by-region silage figures are: Minsk Oblast — 2.397 million tonnes (68% of target); Brest Oblast — 1.685 million tonnes (56%); Grodno Oblast — 1.643 million tonnes (61%); Mogilev Oblast — 1.475 million tonnes (89%); Vitebsk Oblast — 1.304 million tonnes (68%); Gomel Oblast — 1.178 million tonnes (77%).

Silage harvest currently stands at 308,000 tonnes, with the target at 20.962 million tonnes. Grass forage has been harvested in the amount of 2.926 million tonnes of feed units or 29% of the target (10.131 million tonnes).

Flax has been pulled across the area of 6,000 hectares, or 14% of the target.
