Historic Italian garden at Mir Castle to reopen this autumn after restoration
The restoration of the Italian garden dating from the mid-18th century, a unique example of landscape gardening art, is being completed at Mir Castle. It will welcome its first visitors as early as autumn. For now, builders are putting the finishing touches on the landscaping work, while museum staff are actively developing a concept for a bright, ceremonial opening. A BelTA correspondent found out what the Italian garden at the castle was like in the distant past, what it will look like when it reopens, and why this project can fully be called a reconstruction of a historical regular park.

Notes about father, a private soldier of Victory
My father, Mikhail Cherkashin, a Red Army Guards private soldier, who during the operation «Bagration» evacuated 450 wounded soldiers and officers to the sorting platoon, returned home with honors on April 12, 1945, after a serious injury. His Great Patriotic War took place in the 51st Guards Rifle Division. Lasting over 1,300 days, it ended shortly before the Great Victory.
Peaceful music of Victory
The «Festive Parade of Orchestras» — a project dedicated to the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory — was held at the с and brought together peacemakers, teachers, and students from Peace Schools across various regions of the country. They came to the capital at the invitation of the Belarusian Peace Foundation to take part in the celebration and attend a concert program featuring the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Belarus, the wind orchestras of the Belarusian State Academy of Music and the Minsk State Music College named after M. I. Glinka, as well as the «Svetoch» Concert Orchestra of Wind and Percussion Instruments of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts.
Descendants hold the line
On the eve of the great holiday — the 80th anniversary of the Victory, thanks to the project «Four Fronts — One Victory», initiated by the Belarusian Peace Foundation, the closest relatives of the legendary Soviet military leaders Ivan Bagramyan, Konstantin Rokossovsky, Georgy Zakharov and Ivan Chernyakhovsky visited Minsk. These major military leaders, commanding the fronts, together with their armies, during the unique strategic operation «Bagration» did everything possible to ensure that most of Belarus was liberated.
