«It is necessary to restore communication between responsible politicians and between diplomats. There is only one alternative to dialogue — a total conflict, after the outbreak of which it will be pointless to determine its causes. As one of the urgent measures, Belarus has proposed restoring military-to-military communication channels. We need to return to transparency mechanisms and contacts at any acceptable level, including tactical interaction in border areas,» Igor Sekreta said.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry believes that the ongoing militarization of Europe will inevitably lead to a large-scale conflict and that the continent would not withstand another shock of this level.
«There is a pressing need to return to joint confidence- and security-building mechanisms, adapting them to modern realities. Europe has already paid too high a price for the mistakes of previous decades, but the last chance to prevent a catastrophe has not yet been lost. Belarus, which knows the value of peace, firmly rejects war and invites everyone who sincerely seeks a peaceful future for Europe to follow this path,» Igor Sekreta said.
